The Liu Research Group is part of the Agile Tomography Group in The School of Engineering at The University of Edinburgh. We use a wide range of cutting-edge laser inspired sensing approaches to tackle the most challenging issues faced in both the industry and academia.
Liu Research Group was founded in February, 2018, led by Dr. Chang Liu, a lecturer in The University of Edinburgh. Our research group has an ever growing range of interests including tunable diode laser absorption spectroscopy (TDLAS), quantum cascade laser absorption spectroscopy (QCLAS), tomographic absorption spectroscopy, and their applications to combustion diagnosis, chemical process monitoring, trace gas sensing, and breath analysis. Our expertise is in opto-electronic and opto-mechanical design of near/mid infrared optical sensing systems, and development of high-sensitivity optical tomographic methodologies. It covers fundamental spectroscopic modeling, inverse problem solving, signal processing, and embedded system design.
Intensely collaborating with industrial and academic partners, Liu Research Group focuses on providing cutting-edged laser-based solutions to tackle the most challenging issues. To date, our techniques have been applied to visualisation of the combustion processes of gas turbine and compression ignition engine, and on-line monitoring the gas leakage with ultra-low concentration during gas transportation.
